1st Meeting!

Our first PTO introduction meeting is September 27th at 5:30, at the school.

PTO update

September 28, 2011

Last night in the PTO meeting, we talked about the role of the PTO in the school, and about some event ideas. Parents have been expressing the desire for more involvement in the classroom, by receiving more communication from the teachers, and by having a way to help out. Communication is an area of focus, and we hope to increase it by the way of creating an email list, getting more people hooked up with FB, and finding an economically feasible way to send home newsletters.

Word is the fall festival will be happening in early November, so we are planning a movie night for October. Details should be available in a day or so. Some other cool stuff with be announced soon also.

Our first PTO meeting!

September 13, 2011

I don’t know why we didn’t do this sooner, but we have scheduled a meeting! September 27, at 5:30, at the school. There will be some refreshments, and we’ll do a quick overview of what the PTO is this year, and where parents can be getting involved with fundraisers, events, and daily school life. Please help spread the word – there are still parents who aren’t hooked up online.

Book Fair

September 7, 2011

Hi everyone,

It’s hard to believe it, but it’s just about book fair time! The book fair will be open the week of Sept. 19th and I’m eagerly looking for volunteers. We’ll do two shifts Monday – Thursday, 8-12 and 12:30-2:45 and one shift, 1-2:45, on Friday. If you can help, let me know. I’d love to have you!!

Also, I’m going to set up on Friday the 16th, starting about 1pm. If you’re available then, I’d love the help.

I hope everyone is settling back into the swing of school! 🙂

Thursday and Friday

September 6, 2011

Thursday night is Andy’s night. We should have some kind of something to send home tomorrow, but just know it is from 5 to 8 pm. Eat at Andy’s and let them know you are from CFES. My boys will be there on their way to Cub Scouts, and I hope many of you will go also. This event is monthly, on the 1st Thursday of every month.

On Friday we are having our first ever Football Friday! The season is starting Thursday, so Friday students can wear team colors from their (or your) favorite NFL team. Go Steelers! T-shirts are allowed, but they must be either plain colors (no logos or pictures or sayings other than football teams) or team shirts. If they are wearing team colors  they get a ticket to drop in a raffle-drawing bucket. What can they win, you ask? Well, I don’t know yet, but I am working on getting 2 prizes per grade that are football related. No, not beer.

There’s more in the works. Stay tuned…

End of week 1

September 2, 2011

Or maybe its really week 2? Nothing like a hurricane to mix things up.

Another reminder that the Attractions books are out. Buy, sell, return, take orders – there, consider yourself reminded.

Check out the Events page, because now there are actually some events on it! I am excited about our upcoming events, and any day now I will update the Connect page with lists of things that you can do to help and be involved. But you never have to wait to be asked. If there is something you want to do, or are good at, let me know! Email, call the school, comment on this blog, hook up on Facebook, start a rumor.

Have a great extended weekend!

Getting closer….

August 23, 2011

Welcome to any new visitors to this blog and Facebook page!

Now we are another step closer to the start of school. Back to school night was great – lots of parents and students, despite the intense-but-short rainfall. For me, meeting the boy’s teachers was as much for me as for them!  They both have great homeroom teachers, and I am now prepared to send them off with confidence. I hope you feel the same way about your kids heading out Thursday.

Let’s hope Hurricane Irene stays off the coast this weekend, so we can head into the new school year smoothly!

Sometime early next week, I hope to have a list of upcoming events and PTO meetings. Stay tuned!

woo hoo! Back to School!

August 21, 2011

oh drat… I mean, yay! Its time for back to school night!

Actually, this is a really good time for the students – meeting their teachers, seeing their new classroom, and catching up with friends. Especially for the 3rd graders, whose school visit in the spring was cancelled due to some crazy weather.

For the 3rd grader, meeting their teacher and seeing where they will be sitting in class can make the difference between being anxious or being excited about Thursday. They will find out which of their friends from Rocky Point will be in the same room, and riding on the same bus. Parents will feel reassured that their child is in good hands, and is known to their teacher.

The PTO will have a table with some contact information, but no schedule of events yet. Soon soon we will start planning events and having plenty of opportunities for you to be involved and help out!
