1st Meeting!

Our first PTO introduction meeting is September 27th at 5:30, at the school.

The 18th for sure

September 24, 2012

The Family Fun Fall Festival is set for Thursday, October 18th. There is no school on Friday, so you can all come out, party hard, and stay late!

It’s going to be a great time! There will something for everyone in the family, from the Cubby Corner for smaller kids, to the Haunted Trail for the brave ones, and costume contests for everyone. The middle school will be serving food, our PTO will be selling drinks and popcorn, and of course there will be games games games with prizes and candy!

A flyer is coming home today or tomorrow with information on how to be involved in the festival. Even if you can’t help with this event, please send it back with your contact info for future events, and just to stay up to date.

Pumpkin head…

September 12, 2012

I have pumpkin head! Planning has started for the Fall Festival, and it’s all I can think about. The middle school is taking on the Haunted Trail and food concessions, and here on the elementary side we are doing carnival games and decorations. I’m gathering game ideas, and scheming on how to get mass amounts of candy and small prizes donated. Mostly, though, I’m trying to figure out how to reach out and connect with volunteers. Should we have an ‘interest meeting’? Send home notes? Post flyers? Create signs?

You’re right – I should do all of those things.. : )

January 7, 2012

Just before the winter break, we had the Elf Shelf Holiday Shop at school. Students were able to shop on their own for gifts for their families. They had a great time, and the store was a big success. Money from the event has been added to the money raised at the Quarter Auction, and soon will be distributed to purchase classroom supplies.

The Cubby Store is still going strong. This past Friday there were lots of new pencils, bracelets, and teeny monkeys. The store is open every Friday during clubs and lunch (11 to 1) in the foyer.

December Event

November 16, 2011

Have you heard of a Quarter Auction? Its a super fun event, with quarters, prizes, raffles, and concessions, and it raises money for the PTO!
Sarah Prevatte, a CFES parent and a Park Lane Jewelry representative, is an experienced organizer of these popular events. She is heading up our very own Quarter Auction, here at Cape Fear Elementary, on December 9th. With a holiday theme, there will be vendors selling gift items, and plenty of chances to win gift certificates, jewelry, spa treatments, and more! The best part is that the bidding is done by quarters, so if an item has a $25 value, it only costs you 1 quarter to bid! You can win a $100 gift certificate for just 4 quarters!
Mark your calendars for Friday, December 9th, 6pm. Start saving that change, and come have a blast!

We’re getting busy!

October 5, 2011

Things are starting to come together for some great events! Movie Night on the 21st should be lots of fun for the whole family, and a great way to see a movie, for free, with all your kids. We have need of people to help out with food prep, serving, and sales. If you are able to help, please contact the PTO through FB, email, or call the school and leave a message. We will also be accepting donations of sodas, tortilla chips, nacho cheese, and small bags of chips.

A new event is Trunk-Or-Treat, on Saturday the 29th. This will be a safe and fun place to bring the kids in costume for treats and fun. We need people who are willing to decorate a trunk and hand out treats! Please contact us if you are interested. This can be a good way to promote a business also, with handouts and a sign.

PTO update

September 28, 2011

Last night in the PTO meeting, we talked about the role of the PTO in the school, and about some event ideas. Parents have been expressing the desire for more involvement in the classroom, by receiving more communication from the teachers, and by having a way to help out. Communication is an area of focus, and we hope to increase it by the way of creating an email list, getting more people hooked up with FB, and finding an economically feasible way to send home newsletters.

Word is the fall festival will be happening in early November, so we are planning a movie night for October. Details should be available in a day or so. Some other cool stuff with be announced soon also.

Our first PTO meeting!

September 13, 2011

I don’t know why we didn’t do this sooner, but we have scheduled a meeting! September 27, at 5:30, at the school. There will be some refreshments, and we’ll do a quick overview of what the PTO is this year, and where parents can be getting involved with fundraisers, events, and daily school life. Please help spread the word – there are still parents who aren’t hooked up online.

Book Fair

September 7, 2011

Hi everyone,

It’s hard to believe it, but it’s just about book fair time! The book fair will be open the week of Sept. 19th and I’m eagerly looking for volunteers. We’ll do two shifts Monday – Thursday, 8-12 and 12:30-2:45 and one shift, 1-2:45, on Friday. If you can help, let me know. I’d love to have you!!

Also, I’m going to set up on Friday the 16th, starting about 1pm. If you’re available then, I’d love the help.

I hope everyone is settling back into the swing of school! 🙂
